The Reykjavik EDITION

This EDITION is fire!

We eagerly awaited our visit to Iceland to the EDITION at the top of the world. We arrived about 4 hours later them planned due to an air traffic control strike but finally we made our way to Reykjavik! When we entered it felt like a cozy lodge. A unique rock formation which I found out is called a cairns was used by native people to to show the way. These old stone cairns acted as beacons for people travelling in Iceland, a kind of GPS system of the olden days. This cairn was surrounded by black wool cushions and showed us the way to the amazing lobby with a fireplace centerpiece and a projection of the northern lights on the wall . We checked in and were greeted by David who shared that we were fortunate to receive a remarkable upgrade to the second nicest room in the hotel, and it exceeded all expectations.

The room boasted a luxurious marble dining table for eight, creating an elegant space for entertaining or enjoying a private meal. The unique angled wood furniture added a modern touch, complementing the design of the suite. Every window framed breathtaking ice-capped mountain views, offering a perfect backdrop that truly captured the essence of Reykjavik. The view of the iconic Harpa Opera House , providing a cultural touch to the already stunning scenery. (which you can see for about 3 hours a day before you are watching the evening lights once again take center stage)

A chaise lounger positioned next to the window allowed us to unwind while sipping on a glass of champagne. A delightful surprise on the dining table in the form of a chocolate Thor's hammer treat, added a whimsical and local touch to our stay.

Because we arrived on a Monday evening the punch room and rooftop bar as well as the night club were all closed but we were lucky enough to get a tour or all three. The punch room speakeasy was unbelievable. It was surrounded by wood angles and warm velvet cushions with a cozy fireplace. To access, there is a hidden door that looks like a bathroom door you’d never know it was a bar. They told us they have a password and you need to ask around for the password to enter on the weekends. Awesome. The rooftop bar was beautiful and you could imagine the views at the top during the summer of the glaciers would be exceptional. The night club was wild. It felt like you walked into dr. Evil’s lair in the middle of a volcano. You can party or play pac man on the vintage arcade games with angled metal and wood arches and red light setting the mood.

The next morning we woke up to text messages from friends and family asking us if we were ok?? We turned on the news and found out that right after we went to bed a volcano near the blue lagoon had erupted and was spewing lava in the surrounding area! Sadly that meant that our highly anticipated trip to the blue lagoon would not be happening…those hot springs would be running a little TOO hot. We quickly made plans to visit a different smaller lagoon and headed down to the lobby to met the GM Dennis to officially sign the passport! We got to hear his journey to Iceland and all the wild and fun stories that go along with living at the tope of the world.

We took advantage of our last few hours or daylight and walked around downtown visiting the quaint local shops were some wild young adults told us they hike near the lava and bring their pan and cook breakfast on the lava flow. (see last photo in the below gallery- Wow…only in Iceland). A quick walk up the rainbow road led us to the Lutheran church which was stunning. We admired the architecture and the organ music and headed back to get ready for the soak in the lagoon and a great dinner at the Tides.

The next morning we sadly had to leave early …but it was dark anyway so we had a quick bite to eat at the hotel coffee shop and said goodbye. The Reykjavik EDITION was truly unique. From the local design integration to the cozy feel. The brand team certainly made this property feel like an oasis amidst the glaciers.
