the EDITION challenge
The Edition Challenge isn't just something you do as you travel or a boring loyalty program; it's a love letter to design, a high-five to adventure, and proof that when you mix passion with a little crazy, you end up seeing the world in the best way possible.
Why are we doing this?
—
Imagine this: a worldwide adventure that's like a treasure hunt visiting the best hotel brand in the world, The Edition. If you haven’t heard of it, look it up here and immediately book a night at the closest property. Guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
Our Edition journey started by accident. We are a family of 4 from the USA who live in beautiful Xiamen, China. Like many others we were unable to travel during the pandemic. With our international travel dreams on hold, we decided to explore our own backyard.
If you have never been, China is amazing. From ice castles in Harbin to Hawaii like beaches in Sanya, China has it all. We stumbled upon the Sanya Edition, and walking into the lobby we felt like we were home. The architecture was stunning, the design was complete- that feeling you get when you walk into a space and know that it’s just done right, and that Le Labo scent? Heaven.
Every little thing in that place seemed to be whispering, "Hey, we made this just for you." And the service? Let's just say they must've had mind-reading training. Ian Schrager and the whole design team at the Edition really set a new standard for what a modern luxury hotel experience should look and feel like.
Fast forward a bit, we're walking down Nanjing Lu (amazing walking/shopping street in Shanghai), minding our own business, when a familiar scent made me turn my head. We turn around, and there is the Shanghai Edition, like an old friend waving hello. At that moment, we knew this hotel brand had a place in our hearts.
As the world started opening up again, we were struck by a wild idea. Why not turn our love for Edition Hotels into a full-on adventure? So, we chatted with the fabulous GM in Shanghai and asked if the brand had any official “challenge”, she said no, but that sounds awesome! Let us know if you do it!
Our goal? To visit every single Edition hotel around the world. Yeah, it sounds pretty crazy when you say it out loud. But here's the best part: we didn't want this to be just another travel thing or blog. Nope, we added our own twist. We created what we call the "Edition Passport." It's like a scrapbook of all the hotels. And at each stop, the General Manager or someone awesome at each location gives it a stamp and a signature. It's better then a punch card and way more fun then collecting points.
Oh, and our kids? They're in on the action too. They're dreaming up their own pretend hotels, learning about real stuff like branding, marketing and locations as we go from place to place. It's like school, but way cooler.
So, here we are, hoping on planes with our passports (yes the official one and the Edition one) in hand and grins on our faces. The Edition Challenge isn't just something you do as you travel or a boring loyalty program; it's a love letter to design, a high-five to adventure, and proof that when you mix passion with a little crazy, you end up seeing the world in the best way possible.
Hope you enjoy the journey with us!

the FULLERS
We are a family of 4 who love design, travel and experiencing the world. We are designers who live in beautiful Xiamen, China and have the opportunity to live and work in Asia. We stumbled on the EDITION hotel brand during the pandemic and decided to challenge ourselves to see the world visiting one EDITION at a time.
STAMP. SIGN. DATE.

When we considered how to catalog our adventures we thought how better to keep track of the EDITIONS we visit than to make a passport. With design as our second language we used our flight time to design our first EDITION passport. We have asked an awesome representative at each EDITION to 1) STAMP- our passport with the appropriate continent stamp 2) Date and Sign- to confirm we visited the EDITION in person.

As we both have full time jobs and the kids still have school we are planning our route around the holidays, summers and a few long weekends in between. We are completing most of the Asia EDITIONS and going to start the European tour by the end of 2023. In 2024 we will try to finish the rest of the world while waiting for a few last EDITIONS to open ( we are lookin’ at you GINZA, DOHA, JEDDAH, & RIVERA MAYA.
