The Tokyo Toranomon EDITION
THE GARDEN IN THE SKY
Arriving at Tokyo's Toranomon EDITION was a distinctive experience. Our journey led us through an unconventional route as our taxi descended into the underground car park. Upon emerging, we were welcomed by the familiar scents and lush greenery, setting the tone for our stay within this remarkable EDITION property, perched within a high-rise with captivating vistas of Tokyo Tower.
Stepping into the lobby, we walked down a clean hallway with a miniature gallery hang and the other hallmark EDITION elements—an EDITION jungle, lobby bar, and restaurant. While awaiting the check-in process, we met the magnanimous Diego and felt immediately at home. After a few minutes we explained our passport concept and our reputation had preceded us as Anshul the GM stepped up and introduced himself. We presented him with our first official EDITION printed passport (don’t worry Tampa, Miami, Times Square and NYC yours will be mailed soon!). We laughed and had a great time as not only did he stamp our passports but had the kids stamp and sign his as well :)
To commemorate this moment, we ventured onto the terrace, where we were greeted by an awe-inspiring garden and an unparalleled view of Tokyo's skyline.
After our fun we headed to our room. We wanted a terrace so we booked a single room with two beds for this stay (not our favorite configuration with kids but…the terrace). We walked in and the warmth of the wood, the clean space and the large terrace with couch and chairs greeted us.
After freshening up, Diego rang with a delightful surprise: dinner at the Jade Room. The kids had their first taste of a Michelin Starred set menu and we all left with full bellies and beaming smiles.
The subsequent day saw us exploring the vibrant city of Tokyo before returning to the hotel. We got another call from Diego (every time he called it just got better) saying Connie the director of rooms would love to meet us and hear about this adventure! And….if we were up for it…she’d like to upgrade us to the penthouse on our last night. ……Um YES we’re SO up for it! A short bit later her and Diego came up bearing some wonderful plum soda and the most intricate and edible zen garden treat complete with a side of cookies for the kids.
That night we dined at the Blue Room, where impeccable service complemented the mouthwatering Kobe beef. We returned to our room, and It was such an idyllic night that , Robbie said, “I think I’m going to sleep on the sofa on the terrace. You know “camp” downtown Tokyo.” If you know Robbie he does NOT camp so Edition you officially win as the only place Robbie Fuller will camp.
We woke up refreshed, Robbie had survived his urban campout, and we set out to see Shibuya Crossing and slurp some of the BEST ramen ever in Harajuku. Still trying to recreate that magic at home!
Our adventure took us to Ginza to check out the Coming Soon Tokyo Ginza Edition. We gazed longingly through the lobby's glass, almost close enough to grab a signature, but not quite. We vowed to return.
With great anticipation, we moved our bags to the pièce de résistance: the PENTHOUSE. It had everything – a lovely primary bedroom and bath, and a hallway opening up to a spacious living, dining, and kitchen area. Yes, a kitchen – two, actually! Complete with a stove, oven, fridge, and ice maker. you had us at hello.
We cherished every moment in that room, but alas, the time came to check out and bid adieu to the wonderful staff and friends we'd made at the Tokyo Toranomon Edition.
You've truly outdone yourselves, Tokyo Toranomon EDITION,. Domo arigatou gozaimasu.
