The London EDITION

The Original

Our visit to the London EDITION was a rollercoaster of elegance and laughs. We rolled in fashionably late and, stepping into the lobby, we could immediately tell this EDITION was something different. Being the first property, it had the usual EDITION vibes but mixed them up with the charm of the historic building it called home.

Luck was on our side as we got upgraded to the Loft Suite Terrace – a wood-lined secret attic with a killer rooftop terrace showing off downtown London, Big Ben, and the lively neighborhood. The room even had a Hendricks martini bar cart, complete with a hilarious how-to video on making mini martinis.  The pictures on the wall were a tongue in cheek version of the girl with the pearl earring but her hat was toilet paper or tin foil.  It was subtly irreverent just like the cheeky red lip stick on the ceiling of the lobby which was rumored to have been added by Ian Schrager himself.

The next morning, we had a solid English breakfast at Berners Tavern. The restaurant, was covered in a gallery hang of pictures on every wall and a seriously ornate ceiling, it felt like a grand start to the day. We swung by the lobby to meet Ann and the team, officially stamping our EDITION passports –with a glass of champagne! ( a first!)

With full bellies, we hit the streets of central London, dodging last-minute Christmas shoppers. Dinner was back at Berners Tavern, where we met Jessica, the restaurant manager. In a casual chat, we mentioned how cool it'd be to dine on the small balcony above the entrance. Lo and behold, Jessica made it happen, and we ended up savoring dessert and drinks overlooking the historic restaurant.  We felt like VIP’s.

The night continued with a few nightcaps at the bar, soaking in the history. Back in our room, we clicked on the TV and the BBC was showing a documentary on Studio 54 and Ian Schrager – a fitting end to our day in the original EDITION.

After a good night's sleep, reality hit as we had to jet back to the US for Christmas Eve. London EDITION, you were more than we bargained for, giving us a glimpse into the making of our favorite hotel. Big thanks for the memories!
